The News - General News - Turbo Hill avalanche
Turbo Hill avalanche PDF Print E-mail

Good day all,

Given the incredible amount of negative press that has been presented by mainstream media regarding the tragic avalanche that occurred near  Revelstoke, BC last weekend, it is important to communicate to you that Snowmobiler TV and Snow Goer Canada are working hard to set the record straight and ensure that all snowmobilers in the mountains are not portrayed as reckless and irresponsible. Snowmobiler TV was on-site at Turbo Hill just moments after the slide occurred. Our longtime cameraman/producer, Rod Romanow, pulled up on his sled just as the shift had completed and quickly jumped to the task of helping rescue the many who lie hidden in the snow. His efforts, like those of the others involved in the rescue, came from being properly trained and equipped to deal with this kind of situation in the mountains. All of these first responders need to be recognized for their brave and intelligent actions when the time of need occurred.

The Snowmobiler Tv footage Rod captured from the scene, has within limit, been seen on the various news networks. It is unbelievable and will form the basis of an overall bigger effort to deliver a proper message about this incident and safe snowmobiling in the mountains in general. Working with the exclusive content we captured from the friends and families of the Sparwood avalanche tragedy, and elements we are working on with the Canadian Avalanche Centre and the various government, police and Search and Rescue agencies, Snowmobiler TV and Snow Goer Canada will be delivering in-depth documentary and educational elements to assist in executing a much larger Avalanche Safety action plan. As leaders in the snowmobile media and safety communications, we are making this commitment to help prevent further incidents while also ensuring when people, snowmobilers, step up and do amazing things in the worst of environments, that they get properly recognize for their lifesaving efforts and not ridiculed by the uniformed for the sake of "news" headlines and increased drama. Sadly, two families have lost a loved one and the entire snowmobiling community has lost two of its friends and members. Now is a time to remember those lost and be thankful to the snowmobilers who were on-site and responded so that the
losses were not as high as they had the great potential to be.

Warnings, conditions, should of, shouldn't of, and all of the other points that will be rightfully up for debate will all be sorted as time goes by, but these points are definitely not something that should take precedent over acknowledging those who saved so many lives that day on the mountain and prevented what could have been the worst avalanche tragedy in history. We will keep you posted on our efforts and hope that the entire snowmobile industry recognizes the true heroics of those involved.
